Alys Fowler
Alys Fowler, Patron of Martineau Gardens, has had an illustrious career at some of the great gardens of the world. She trained at RHS Wisley, the New York Botanical Gardens and the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, before working at BBC Gardeners’ world as Head Gardener. She is author of several books and writes regular gardening feature for the Guardian. Whether helping out at her school garden as a child, volunteering in New York or tending her allotment, community gardening has always been important to Alys. Here she explains why she feels passionate about Martineau Gardens. “ The Gardens offer respite from city living, a genuinely egalitarian space for all. Children who live in the city really need somewhere where they can come and be wild.”
