We’ve had a beautiful wildlife sighting recently, a large and rare moth, the stunning Blue Underwing Moth (otherwise known as the Clifden Nonpareil). A first for Martineau Gardens!
Pictured central, volunteers Andrew and Brian have been volunteering as our wildlife recorders for over 15 years – Andrew has been longing to see this moth and patience has paid off. And this was followed by a terrific count of yellow underwings, across the same evening – not so rare – but still they were astonished to record 111 of the moths.
You can find out more about our light box and how we monitor the moths that visit Martineau Gardens here.
Once the moth has been identified, it is safely released. We’re constantly reminded about how biodiverse our small organically managed patch is. Great work Andrew and Brian!
