Green flag flies again August 18, 2023

A proud moment for the garden crew – flying the flag beside the food growing areas at Martineau Gardens

We’ve done it again! 14 years in a row, Martineau Gardens has been awarded a Community Green Flag Award.

We’ve done it again! 14 years in a row, Martineau Gardens has been awarded a Community Green Flag Award. Our beautiful free entry gardens would not be the place they are without the support and dedication of our amazing volunteers.

Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag Award Scheme Manager Paul Todd MBE said: “Martineau Gardens is a vital green space for the community in Birmingham, bringing people together and providing opportunities to lead healthy lifestyles. The staff and volunteers do so much to ensure that it maintains the high standards of the Green Flag Award and everyone involved should feel extremely proud of their achievement.”

The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world. More details here.

Martineau Gardens is open Monday to Saturday, 10am until 4pm and entry is free. We are a charity and a therapeutic Community Garden, looked after by volunteers, many of whom have mental health issues or learning disabilities. Hundreds of school children visit the gardens to learn about science and the environment. Every year, thousands of people visit the gardens to enjoy its peace and tranquillity. We host host events and courses and sell plants and produce – why not come and visit us this summer?
