Coronavirus Statement April 1, 2020

Updated 4 November 2020

A message from our Trustees:

We are happy to confirm that during the latest lockdown we will be able to continue the therapeutic horticulture programme for volunteers who can safely make their way to the Gardens. We will also remain open to the public on Mondays only  from 10 am to 3 pm.  We ask that visitors respect the lockdown guidance, visiting only with people from the same household or bubble, and meeting with only one person from another household. We will have signage in place for social distancing and safety, with which we ask visitors to kindly comply.  For now, there is no need to book a visit. If we feel we have reached capacity for visitors we will close the gates until numbers ease, and apologise if this causes inconvenience.

Martineau Gardens has begun a phased re-opening to the public. Our priority during the pandemic has been to support Therapeutic Horticulture volunteering. We opened to Friends on Mondays in September, and from Monday 2 November  Martineau Mondays was extended to all.

Remaining closed to visitors was not an easy decision, but this has been a time when the volunteers on our Therapeutic Horticulture programme have needed the service more than ever.  Volunteers started returning to maintain the gardens and woodlands in early May, and the number of returnees is growing steadily.

With careful planning, risk assessments and other preparations including a renovation of the toilets, we are in a more robust position to welcome visitors back to Martineau Gardens. For those who are not able to visit us on Mondays, we ask for your patience – we are gradually increasing our capacity and will update you when we feel the time is right to welcome everyone back. Until then we wish you all well.
